Education Inclusivity During Covid-19 Pandemic Webinar
The Humanitarian Affairs Working Group of the Major Group for Children and Youth (MGCY) in partnership with the Compact for Young People in Humanitarian Action will be hosting a webinar on Education Inclusivity During Covid-19 Pandemic.
Background
The COVID-19 pandemic has had a devastating impact on education.188 nations have closed all or some of their academic institutions to prevent and control the spread of the virus which had affected over 1.57 billion learners by early 2021.
In order to mitigate its negative impact, individuals, governments and civil society organizations among other actors, have led diverse initiatives to ensure inclusivity and continuity of education in these exceptional times. With the extra demands of this adaptation, there is a tendency for certain learners to be excluded from access to education based on ethnic background, socio-economic status, age, migrant status or disability.
Objective
The goal of this webinar is to discuss the tendencies that hinder access to education for some, in times like this. We would explore the forms of expression of these tendencies, possible causes and consequences, and strategies to minimize them to ensure more inclusive education during COVID-19 pandemic and other crises. Experiences and case studies will be shared by youth education actors from different parts of the world
