Food@COP Campaign Calls for Climate-Friendly Food at COP26

While the intersessionals are happening online this year, the question of whether the COP26 will be in-person or a hybrid event remains unsure. However, if this year’s UN Climate Conference is held online or not, the food served at such events continues to be an important issue that needs to be tackled.

Large-scale conferences have major environmental footprints partly due to their catering. The UN should set an example and serve climate-friendly food at COP. For these reasons, we believe it’s vitally important for COP26 to fuel climate action through meals that are less resource-intensive and better for the planet we are fighting for. Shifting to a plant-based event is only logical for one whose purpose is to fight climate change. We stand together in the belief that COP26 should acknowledge the link between food and climate and shift catering towards more climate-friendly foods.

The Food@COP Campaign team has been working on strategy and efficiency the past few weeks making the most of this crisis and taking the campaign to another level. As of today, 105 organisations and networks worldwide support our campaign and more than 3000 people have signed our petition.
