Engage in Summit of the Future: Upcoming Consultations & More Updates!

Dear youth and youth organizations,

We are pleased to circulate this newsletter to share exciting updates and opportunities regarding youth-led engagement at the UN Summit of the Future 2024.

About Summit of the Future
The Summit of the Future will take place in September 2023 bringing member states and stakeholders together to forge a new international consensus on how we deliver a better present and safeguard the future. The negotiations for the Summit are already taking place, occurring every 2-3 weeks at UN HQ in New York. The negotiations will result in an inter-governmentally negotiated text called “Pact for the Future”, structured under the 5 themes/chapters identified in the Scope Paper of the summit. The overall negotiations are being chaired by Germany and Namibia, alongside tracks on the Declaration on Future Generations and Global Digitial Compact being chaired by another set of member states available here.  Given the wide focus and ambition of the summit, it is essential to meaningfully engage young people in the process from the inception. Young people have been consulting and organizing their participation in the summit since 2022 and before (read more here) and we are excited to be able to continue this journey with you.

Youth Info Hub for the Summit

Building on the model at ECOSOC Youth Forum and other processes, we are pleased to launch Youth Info Hub for Summit of the Future accessible on: www.linktree.com/youth_for_sotf

This should serve as a one-stop shop for finding important links and updates about youth engagement in the Summit preparatory process. We have intentionally kept the design simple to ease access even in case of low internet connectivity or bandwidth.

Global Youth Policy Paper for the Summit of the Future

This Youth Policy Paper will be developed in different stages. The first version (v1) of the Policy Paper will be finalized before 31st December 2023 (deadline by UN) to provide inputs to the Zero Draft of the Pact for the Future, and subsequent versions will be worked upon in 2024 as negotiations progress.

Share your written contribution/existing policy paper
As part of the development of the collective youth policy paper, we want to ensure that the policy demands are coherent and concrete while also not duplicating the amazing work that youth groups have already done or are doing; and that the constituency’s work builds on the existing policy stances. We have already started mapping and consolidation exercises of existing position papers across the UN system from youth groups, and would now like to invite everyone to contribute! We request you to support us by sharing your existing contributions such as policy/position papers using this form. This can include any previous policy paper relevant to the five themes of the Summit of the Future, or any new documents that you have developed during a consultation process recently. All kinds of inputs are welcomed as long as a clear relevance to themes is maintained. https://forms.gle/dVDfRTzDzzVvr7EK8

Join the Youth Working/Focus Group
To further enhance the participation of youth, and to provide a universal space for all interested youth organizations and youth advocates to contribute, engage and co-design the youth engagement for Summit of the Future, the youth constituency last year operationalized a Working/Focus Group specific for the process, called the Summit of the Future Youth Working/Focus Group. Please join via the link:

More updates will be shared directly with the focus group.
