HLPF Side-Event: Ending Exploitation, Achieving Prosperity: Africa’s Fight for Decent Work

Date: 21 July 2025

Time: 12:00 – 1:00 PM EST

Location: UN Headquarters, Conference Room B, New York

How can we end labor exploitation and ensure youth in Africa access safe, fair, and dignified jobs?

At the 2025 High-Level Political Forum, the review of SDG 8 Decent Work and Economic Growth highlights a pressing challenge: the widespread persistence of indecent work in Africa. Despite the continent’s demographic strength and resources, millions especially youth and women remain trapped in exploitative, unsafe, and informal jobs. This crisis undermines human dignity, fuels poverty, and blocks progress toward both SDG 8 and Africa’s Agenda 2063. Urgent action is needed to dismantle systems of labor exploitation and create pathways to fair, safe, and dignified employment.
