The Kite Trust - Online Groups and 1-1 Support

Location: United Kingdom (Cambridgeshire)

We're a small charity who provide support services to LGBTQ+ young people in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough in the UK. We've been running for many years, delivering groups and one-to-one support services to tackle the isolation and discrimination that LGBTQ+ young people face in our communities.

In response to COVID-19, we have stepped up our work to support 60% more young people, with a total of 2.5 times as much youth work time as we did in the same period last year. We're now delivering 4 online groups, providing individual support across a wide variety of platforms (from social media to snail mail), and have launched a podcast! Our podcast supports LGBTQ+ adults (many of whom are also young!) with a guest fee to give them support as they generally work freelance and have seen their incomes fall dramatically at this time. It also creates opportunities for young people to meet their role models and share this collective wisdom with a wider audience through the podcast platform.

Support

Our podcast cost's us about £150 per episode to produce and a youth worker's time cost about £500 a week. We're trying to scale these to meet demand, so we don't have an overall budget, but any funding to help us do more of these two things will help us to support more young LGBTQ+ people in our region.
